July Issue 2005
Transylvania Community Arts Center in Brevard, NC, Features Works by Three SC Artists
Three Artists, Three Visions, is an exhibition of paintings by three Upstate South
Carolina artists, Jane Todd Butcher, Barbara Stitt, and Carole
Knudson Tinsley slated for the Transylvania Community Arts Center
in Brevard, NC. The exhibit of mixed water media paintings opens
July 15, and continues through Aug. 26, 2005.
While the trio of artists all work in similar mediums, the exhibit
will showcase the diversity of their individual visions. The artists
have studied and painted together for many years, and their works
are exhibited regionally and nationally. All three mainly use
acrylics, often combined with collage and other mixed media. Yet,
their painting styles and their final results are quite different.
Carole Knudson Tinsley
Carole Knudson Tinsley's works are primarily
abstracted imagery, and occasionally impressionistic landscapes.
Her abstract pieces suggest textured "earth forms,"
the dwellings of some ancient Native American culture. Her paintings
make use of rich colors and strong shapes, which are built up
through layers of paint and collage.
Barbara Stitt
Barbara Stitt's approach to painting involves
a unique stylization of representational images - people, landscapes,
or floral subjects. Images are woven together with geometric or
organic patterns and textures into a beautiful overall design
of color and pattern.
Jane Todd Butcher
Jane Todd Butcher's landscapes are created
from layers of paint and individually stained collage papers in
vibrant colors and textures that are designed to suggest the different
mood of each scene. Simple yet dramatic compositions leave detail
to the viewer's imagination.
