July Issue 2006
City of North Charleston in North Charleston, SC, Offers Works by Gazie Nagel and Gretchen Dzedzej
The North Charleston
City Gallery will be exhibiting original photographs by Gazie
Nagel and original paintings by Gretchen Dzedzej, from July 1-31,
2006, at the North Charleston Performing Arts Center and Charleston
Area Convention Center in North Charleston, SC.
Nagel's exhibition is titled Archi-Textures of the Lowcountry.
The intention of the series is to promote awareness of natural
textures in the Lowcountry. Nagel is revealing her appreciation
of nature's enchanting beauty by focusing on the colors, shapes,
and forms that have drawn her in for closer inspection.
Photography and drawing
have been an important aspect in Nagel's life since growing up
in the Midwest. The two mediums are very similar to Nagel in that
forethought regarding subject matter is necessary. Correspondingly,
Nagel photographs architectural details of historic Charleston
homes.
Gretchen Dzedzej's exhibition is titled Everyday Distractions.
Acrylic, pastel, and watercolor scenes inspired by sailing and
the observation of the general public in various settings comprise
her exhibition. Technique and subject matter vary in this body
of work. Dzedzej was greatly influenced by her mother, an artist
as well.
Dzedzej began receiving awards and widely exhibiting her work in 1979. In 1992 she earned a degree from the College of Charleston and continued to expand her education through collaboration with other artists. Currently she operates a painting business in which she specializes in murals, trompe l'oeil, and faux finishes.
