Haywood County Arts Council in Waynesville, NC, Features Works by Ben Shute
Gallery 86 of the Haywood County Arts Council in Waynesville, NC, is presenting an exhibit of works by the late Atlanta, GA-based artist Ben Shute, on view through July 29, 2006.
Ben Edgar Shute, born on July 13, 1905, and died July 15, 1986, is best known for his portrait paintings as well as his paintings inspired by his travels around the world. He is celebrated for capturing the Georgia coast as well as his depictions of sailboats and seagulls. His attention also moved from the South, and ventured into the villas of Mexico, capturing a bright culture in watercolor and oils.
Shute traveled many times north to the shores of Maine, recording the nautical way of life in blue and green watercolor and casein. He flew east to the vistas of Europe, painting the simple antiquity of his personal Europe in an efficacious cubist perspective he is best remembered for. Every moment observed, and every endeavor traveled, Shute inspired a body of work any collector would be thrilled to attain.
