July Issue 2006

Hilton Head Art League on Hilton Head Island, SC, Presents Miniature Artworks

An exhibition and sale of miniature paintings will be held at the Hilton Head Art League Gallery in Pineland Station on Hilton Head Island, SC, beginning on July 5 and running through July 29, 2006. No painting in the collection is larger than 8 inches by 10 inches, framed. There's a saying about good things coming in small packages. That is proven true with this current show. Paintings in all mediums are presented in miniature form. Landscapes and still lifes, figures and flowers.

Miniatures look great when positioned in clusters or standing on table-top easels on coffee tables and end tables. They can add color to a guest room. Groupings by subject or color can make for an interesting wall. They're great as hostess gifts or as a memento of a fun vacation to take home and enjoy all year long. You can expect oils on canvas and watercolors on paper some exquisitely framed, others, studio wrapped.

So many of our well-known local artists enjoy the change of pace in painting small. The challenge for the artist remains to provide an interesting subject, excellent composition and technical superiority within the confines of a limited space. Our artists have met the challenge and the results are spectacular. You'll find so many paintings that catch your eye that you'll have to have more than just one. And you certainly can, since the miniature paintings come with small price tags; they're very affordable. And, since the small paintings carry small price tags, they're also an ideal way to encourage youngsters to start collecting art. A beautifully framed miniature painting of the child's own choice can be a very special addition to his/her room and an expression of a growing art interest.

Among the artists who are thinking small this July are: Cindy Chiappette, Kitty Siverton, Grace Stump, Bobsy Simes, Jeanie Hooper, Doris, Shay, Sandra Wenig, Emily Wilson, Dawn Duff, Marion Taylor, Marilyn Dizikes, Barb Snow and Jo Dye. Donna Ireton is offering some 3-D miniatures as well.

Through the ages, miniatures have been a popular art form. Whether portraits of a loved one or a favorite pet, or a representation of a beautiful garden or country home, the small paintings have been prized possessions, often handed down through generations. The Art Miniatures show at the Art League Gallery is an unique opportunity to start your prized collection. There's always room on a wall for a small addition that will brighten a dark corner or add a focal point to a blank wall, or sharing a book shelf in the den.

For that little something special in your life, add an art miniature by a well-known Hilton Head artist. It's an opportunity to prove that small is big, small is beautiful, small can be truly fine art.
