Hodges Taylor Gallery in Charlotte, NC, Features Works by Marc Maiorana and Other Gallery Artists
Hodges Taylor Gallery in Charlotte, NC, is pleased to announce its summer exhibition featuring Marc Maiorana: Incipient and works by other gallery artists. The exhibitions will be on view from July 10 through Aug. 31, 2006.
Marc Maiorana's work is featured in the gallery courtyard in Transamerica Square. Four massive fabricated steel sculptures are intended for outdoor installation where they will develop a brown, rusted patina with nature's wear. The artist states that "The sequence of steel manufacture, primitive or industrial, beginning with mass and drawing down and down and down into endless line, is one of reverence. My steel abstracts emphasize the point in this sequence where transformation becomes a possibility."
Maiorana currently resides in Asheville, NC, and prior to that, was a resident artist at the Penland School of Craft in Penland, NC. He received a BFA in Metalsmithing at Southern Illinois University, Carbondale and also attended the School of Ceramics at Alfred University, Alfred, NY. He has taught classes at many prominent crafts schools including: Penland School of Crafts, Haystack Mountain School of Crafts, and Ball State University, Muncie, IN. Collections that include Maiorana's work are the Minneapolis Institute of Art, MN, and the Horn Collection of Contemporary Crafts in Little Rock, AR.
Other gallery artists whose work will be on view include Richard Fennell, Virginia Scotchie, Randy Shull, and Kevin Kennedy.
In business since 1981, Hodges Taylor Gallery represents contemporary artists of the southeast, including paintings, prints, photographs and sculpture. The gallery offers a public venue in uptown Charlotte for viewing artwork and serves as art consultants for individual and corporate collectors.
