Fountainside Gallery in Wilmington, NC, Offers Works by Paula Holtzclaw
Fountainside Gallery in Wilmington, NC, will present the exhibit, Island Images, a collection of new landscape acrylics by Paula Holtzclaw, on view from July 14 - 28, 2007.
Holtzclaw's popularity resulted in a sold out exhibit last year and many of her collectors have been waiting for this new group of paintings. She has spent the last decade carefully developing her distinct style of realism which celebrates the inherent beauty of the beaches and marshes of the Carolina low country.
The things the viewer first notices in Holtzclaw's work are the space and vastness of her particular perspective, her observations of the landscape narrative and her respect for the singularity of nature unmarred by man. Her highly personal renderings pay homage to the duality found in nature, at once beautiful and powerful, and yet vulnerable to intrusion from an industrialized society. Holtzclaw holds the rapidly disappearing natural world in her paintings, encapsulated and impervious to the changes on the horizon. She presents to the viewer a pristine, dramatic yet inviting place to feel at peace with the natural world.
Of her work, Holtzclaw says, "I draw my creative inspiration from the beauty of our still unspoiled southern low country. The distinctive ocean brine, the seasonal changes of the grassland and the ever-changing skies above speak deeply to me. With each painting, my goal is to share with the viewer this special feeling of peace and tranquility that I experience while painting."
The ability to bring this philosophy to life is why Holtzclaw was commissioned by the Bald Head Island Club to paint the local beaches for their new dining facility. She was also accepted into the Art Splash on the Square National Juried Exhibition in Graham, TX, May, 2007. Holtzclaw's paintings have been included in numerous private and corporate collections throughout the country. They have also been profiled in a number of publications including, The Charlotte Observer, Charlotte Place Magazine, and Southern Anglers Journal.
