The Penn Center on St. Helena Island, SC, Features Works by Jery Bennetat-Taylor
The Penn Center on St. Helena Island, SC, will
present the exhibit, Expressions in Sweetgrass, a new collection
of Gullah paintings by renowned sweetgrass basket crafter, Jery
Bennetat-Taylor, on view at the York W. Bailey Museum, from July
21 - Sept. 30, 2007.
Born in Mt. Pleasant, SC, Taylor is a self-taught artist who has
created a beautiful collection of striking images depicting her
childhood growing up on Boone Hall Plantation.
Taylor's sweetgrass baskets are widely collected across the United States, but this is her first collection of acrylic paintings on canvas.
