Pluff Mudd Art in Bluffton, SC, Features an Exhibit of Mirrors
Pat Gardiner
Pluff Mudd Art in Bluffton, SC, is presenting the exhibit, Mirror, Mirror - Pluff Mudd Artists Celebrate 5 Years!, featuring works in the form of mirrors by the gallery's artists, on view through July 30, 2007.
Reflections of 16 local Bluffton artists can
be seen not only in their work, but in a collection of mirrors
created to celebrate the 5-year anniversary of the founding of
the Pluff Mudd Art gallery on Calhoun Street in Old Town Bluffton.
In reflecting over the past five years of growth, each artist
has designed a mirror, depicting an individual expression of their
craft. The group of fine artists and craftspeople moved into their
current location at 27 Calhoun Street last summer.
"Not only is this a celebration of 5 years together, it is
a celebration of a fabulous first year in our wonderful new home,"
says artist Vickie Jourdan. Works on exhibit include painting
and prints, sterling silver and gem stone jewelry, wood turnings,
clay art, hand-blown glass, hand-woven and wearable art.
Several new artists joined the group through the past year including award winning wood turner, John Diamond, who is well known for the unique features and unusual grain patterns and colors in his work. Diamond's work ranges from bottle toppers to decorative bowls and vases. Also joining the group was another award winning artist, painter and tile artist Diane Dean. Dean's work was recently selected for an episode of HGTV's That's Clever. Two of her vivid color and textured mixed media paintings were recently selected for hanging at the Charleston Visitor Center for the Piccolo Spoleto Festival in Charleston, SC.
Kelly Logan Graham, who frequently paints from his boat in local waters, also joined the group this year. Graham's celebration mirror, entitled Oyster Company depicts our local treasure, the Bluffton Oyster Company, and is a must see. Another new artist, Lillian Byrne Heyward isn't seen around the gallery or Bluffton much these days because she is at work on the soon to be released Army Wives television show which is being filmed on location in the Carolinas. Heyward's work, especially her yard chickens, are vibrant enough to make up for her absence.
Other artists include: Mary Althoff, sterling silver jewelry; Pat Gardiner, clay art; Betty Hintz, paintings, pastels and prints, Vickie Jourdan, mixed media paintings, David Knowlton, paintings and prints, Danny Lozano (also selected for HGTV's That's Clever) hand-blown glass, Marilyn McDonald, gem stone jewelry, Sue McFarland, hand-woven and wearable art, Lynda K. Potter, paintings and prints, May Risz, paintings and prints, Sara Tiffany, decorative trays and boxes, and Emily Wilson, oil paintings.
