Transylvania Community Arts Council in Brevard, NC, Features Works by Ward Nichols and Betty Powell

The Transylvania Community Arts Council in Brevard, NC, announces the exhibit, Artistic Visions, featuring works by noted Wilkes County, NC, artists Ward Nichols and Betty Powell. This exhibit will open on July 2 and continue through Aug. 10, 2007.

Ward Nichols

Ward Nichols is highly regarded as an accomplished American Realist, or more accurately, an "Interpretive Realist." Much of Nichol's work depicts rural life, reflecting our heritage and the nostalgia of the past. His distinct visual interpretations have earned him representation in many private and corporate collections, as well as the permanent collections of museums here and abroad.

Nichols has been recognized nationally and internationally and has been the recipient over 30 major awards. His popularity is reflected by his busy schedule of exhibits, which includes over 130 one-man shows.

Betty Powell began taking art lessons at age 7. Her belief in hard work and continuing study of her craft has kept her mind and eye open to the beauty around her. She has studied with well-known pastel artists Wolf Kahn and Charles Basham and others to master the brightness and vibrancy of pastels. She is a student of life who celebrates each new step in her painting.

Powell's award-winning work can be found in many corporate collections including Wachovia National Bank, Bank of America, the Bowman Gray School of Medicine and Lowe's Companies.
