The Art League of Hilton Head on Hilton Head Island, SC, will present two exhibitions including: Summer Dreams, featuring works by Art League members and The Whole Box of Crayons, featuring works by Caroline Alderman. Both exhibits open on July 14 and continued through Aug. 9, 2008.

Summer dreams - everybody has one - is a whimsical approach to the Gallery's exhibit, Summer Dreams. Close to 100 Art League artists will interpret their dreams, wishes and flights of fancy in various painting styles and techniques in a light and inspiring way throughout the entire Gallery.

What's your dream for this summer? Let your imagination run free - a cruise to exotic islands with Margaritas or Daiquiris, brought right to your chair? - weeks of golf without interruption? - unlimited visits to a spa? - hiking and exploring in cool mountain areas away from the heat? - or just lazy days on the beach right here at home with some time to do absolutely nothing.

Anita Stephens
Cheryl Eppolito

Cheryl Eppolito's work, Pink Umbrella is just waiting for you to take your spot at the beach! The summer heat will make you want to stay in the breeze and close to the surf as Anita Stephens' richly colored seagull in her painting Keeping it Cool. And who, as a teenager, did not dream of a lifeguard summer job on the beach watching the girls go by and taking a dip in the ocean when no one is looking - just as in Ed Funk's photograph titled On Duty. I'd be in paradise "sitting pretty" in the midst of my favorite food, just like the beautiful butterfly on its juicy watermelon in Martha Worthy's painting. And what's for dinner tonight? What's better than freshly caught seafood after a relaxing day with your favorite fishing partner, as beautifully rendered in Joyce Nagel's pastel painting, Just Fishing. And last but not least - Romance! John Crum's Star Dust & Memories conjures up a romantic night reminiscing with a loved one under the full moon and a sky of stars on the Love Boat of your dreams!

Come and get inspired for your summer dreams by your Art League artists' original artwork - whatever strikes your fancy, be it paintings, photographs or jewelry.

Caroline Alderman

The Whole Box of Crayons is an exhibit of recent jewelry creations by Caroline Alderman. Her work features colorful and intricately patterned polymer clay pendants, brooches and beads combined with fiber, colored wire and sterling silver components made from precious metal clay. Alderman also employs intricate caning, sculpting and textures and uses faux finishes imitating ivory, bone, jade, turquoise and jasper; other favorite techniques of hers are Mokume gane and marbling.

Alderman's sense of playfulness and humor is evident in many of the whimsical necklaces and pins. Goddesses, fashionista flounders, divas, fairy godmothers, and fanciful felines abound in riotous rainbows of complex color harmonies.

Alderman has been working in polymer clay since she moved to Hilton Head seventeen years ago. She is inspired by the flora and fauna of the island. She is a quilter and has lectured throughout the Midwest on quilt making and surface design. She was well known for her opulent wearables and whimsical children's clothing which she sold at art shows. Alderman began experimenting with polymer clay when she needed some interesting closures for these garments. Soon, she was spending more and more time with the clay. It is a fascinating medium that continues to capture her imagination.
