Beet Contemporary Craft & Functional Art in Charlotte, NC, Offers Works by Michael Blackwell

Beet Contemporary Craft & Functional Art in Charlotte, NC, is presenting the exhibit,
Selected Works, featuring the mixed media and photographs of Charlotte artist Michael Blackwell, on view from July 4 - 31, 2008.

Blackwell is an enigma. His large muscular stature and voice coexists with a sweetness of being rarely encountered. His art work is motivated by passion for art and compassion for humanity. His paintings are dramatic and moving - reminders to honor the moment - with bold color and form, heavily textured. Blackwell describes his process as "cutting and pasting canvas from one painting into another. Raw, immediate, searching brush strokes, painting, repainting, layering."

Blackwell was born in Chester County, Pennsylvania and has lived in the South most of his adult life. He earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Maryland Institute, College of Art in Baltimore, MD. He has exhibited widely in Maryland and North Carolina. Blackwell has distinguished himself in the human sector as the US Street Soccer Official Team Photographer in Copenhagen, Denmark, and volunteer graphic designer for the Urban Ministry Center in Charlotte.
