Red Clover Gallery in Landrum, SC, Features Works by Richard Seaman

The Red Clover Gallery's newest exhibit, Transitions: The Italian Landscapes and Recent Paintings, is featuring never before seen works by the young, emerging realist, Richard Seaman. The exhibit will be on view at this Landrum, SC, gallery through July 15, 2008.

A native of the Midwest, Seaman was originally influenced by the design, craft, line, and wash drawings of the sixties and seventies from illustrators like Bernie Fuchs and Al Parker. Studying art at the College of Creative Studies in Detroit, MI, Seaman found his life's purpose. Art was a life direction he knew not all people understood, but was a solid foundation for him.

After achieving his BFA in Illustration, he began a brief career as a freelance Illustrator. While at college in Detroit, Seaman met instructor and now friend, Richard Nelson. Seaman furthered his art career by studying under Nelson in the Blue Ridge area. To Seaman, "discovering Tryon at such an early age was a great gift" in his life and he believes there "will come a time when he will need what a place like Tryon has to offer."

Seaman continued his studies in the Mecca for classical realism academies, Florence, Italy. There, he attended the Florence Academy of Art where he was, "constantly stimulated by the simple lifestyle and rich resources of the area." Modern Italy was the perfect atmosphere to study the late 19th century drawing and painting practices of the classical French ateliers.

Seaman credits his experience in Florence for answering very important questions about proper drawing, eliminating frustrations he experienced with painting before. Seaman's Transitions: The Italian Landscapes and Recent Paintings will include a collection of recent landscapes and still-lifes completed during and after this inspirational experience in Italy.

Currently, Seaman devotes the majority of his time to art and cultivating inspiration through a life balanced in research, travel and work. He feels that if he was not an artist, he would see himself "helping people in some way, maybe the peace corps."
