Halsey Gallery in Charleston, SC, to Host Exhibition of the Artwork of Pati Croffead
The Halsey Gallery, at the College of Charleston's School of the Arts, in Charleston, SC, will host an exhibition by the late Charleston artist Pati Croffead, from Aug. 11-25, entitled Sensucht: The Art of Pati Croffead.
Pati Croffead (1946-1998) was born in Charleston and spent much of her life here. She received her BA in Art from the University of South Carolina and later attended the College of Charleston to study art and set design. She received her Masters degree in Studio Art from New York University in 1993. A tireless advocate for the arts in Charleston, Croffead participated actively in efforts to stimulate the dialogue about contemporary art. She was one of the co-founders of LOCUS (now Charleston Center for Contemporary Art) and a co-producer for the video documentary Charleston Art Now. In 1995, Croffead combined her interests in psychology and art with a Master of Education in Community Counseling degree from the Citadel with an emphasis on art therapy.
While Croffead's efforts on behalf of other artists was well known, her work as an active artist herself was always kept in the background. This exhibition will be a posthumous celebration of the creative output of this accomplished artist. Croffead worked with equal dexterity in plaster, paint, print media, and installation formats, all of which will be surveyed in this show. An illustrated catalogue will be available.
