Artworks Gallery in Asheville, NC, Hosts Works by Charlotte Cathey Holder
Artworks Gallery in Asheville, NC, will be hosting Word Plays, an exhibit by Charlotte Cathey Holder from Aug. 4 - 30, 2001.
For most of us, the things we saw as children fade with age. But Holder enters the mystery of the world of a child and travels from the known to the unknown, allowing herself to wander in new lands, reclaiming the magic of the spontaneity of a child's expression and with the skills of a practiced artist. Her play is innocent, unexpected, and she allows herself the freedom to create in an original and unique manner. Holder's magical and free-spirited paintings appeal to children of all ages. Anything can happen, and it does, in her paintings, and without judgment.
Holder says, "The mind of a child is so free and imaginative. Everyday is an adventure, a magic carpet ride.., and I try to convey this world of possibilities as a child sees it... perpetual summer, reachable stars, a world with no prejudice, no limits."
Holder grew up in Memphis, TN and received her BFA from Memphis State University. She furthered her post-graduate studies at Memphis Academy of Art and the University of Alabama at Huntsville. She worked as a freelance artist for Disney Productions and Warner Brothers. Her artwork has appeared in numerous publications, exhibitions and collections throughout the US, including Memphis State University, Huntsville Museum of Art, and Little Rock Art Museum. Her paintings are also carried in galleries in LA, NC, SC, MS and TN.
