August Issue 2001
Artworks Gallery in Winston-Salem, NC, Features Works by Duncan Lewis
Artworks Gallery in Winston-Salem, NC, is presenting a one-person show of sculpture and graphics entitled, From Japan to Jerusalem, by Duncan Lewis, from Aug. 7 through Sept. 8, 2001.
Duncan Lewis's new work represents the culmination of the regional artist project grant that he received in 2000 from the Forsyth County Arts Council. Having recently returned from working in Japan and Israel, his work centers around real and mythological animals from Japan, Israel, and his imagination. His sculpture starts with wood carving in Japan and ends with stone carving in Israel. In addition, Lewis is showing woodblock prints done in a traditional Japanese fashion, digital photographs of Japan and Israel, a series of monotypes, and some pen and ink and gouache landscapes.
Lewis currently teaches at Winston-Salem State Univ. and the Sawtooth Center for Visual Art. He attended the San Miguel Allende Fine Arts Institute in Mexico and the New York Studio School. He has also taught and studied at Penland School of Crafts.
