Asheville Area Arts Council Presents Works by Scott Lowrey
The Asheville Area Arts Council will present the exhibition, Invocations: Prints by Scott Lowrey, in the Council's Front Gallery in downtown Asheville, NC, through Aug. 31, 2001.
Scott Lowrey is well known in the area both as artist and teacher. He is Chair of the Visual Arts Department at Mars Hill College and also part of the University of North Carolina at Asheville's Visual Arts Department. He is affiliated with 16 Patton Gallery in Asheville and Bennett Galleries in Knoxville, TN.
Better known for his landscape paintings, Lowrey has chosen to share an unseen collection during the exhibit at the Front Gallery. He calls the prints Prayer Flags and they are a reflection of his spirit. The Flags speak volumes of his knowledge of design and print as well as speaking to your spirit.
"Combing archetypal symbolic imagery from various religions and philosophies, I think of these prints as explorations and communiqués about the transposition of faith. Within these explorations are woven references to alchemy, duality, revelation/obfuscation, divine geometry, and of courseself."
