Works by Shane Fero Featured Artist at Blue Spiral 1 in August in Asheville, NC

Blue Spiral 1 in Asheville, NC, is proud to present an exhibition of recent work from renowned local glass artist Shane Fero in the Showcase Gallery from Aug. 1 - 30, 2001. This exhibition includes vessel forms and figurative sculptures whose central themes revolve around the artist's interest in mythology, philosophy, psychology and anthropology.

In Fero's work, the imaginative aspects of these disciplines take the form of fairies, daemons and various animals that are artfully created through the process of flameworking glass. This process consists of the manipulation of glass rods in a flame torch while alternately adding to and cooling the molten glass in sequential steps until the desired form is achieved. The results of this creative and highly technical process are nothing short of stunning. Fero also uses glass blowing and hotworking methods to achieve the richness of color and pattern inherent in these timeless forms.

Shane Fero has taught and lectured on flameworking at such prestigious academies as Pilchuck Glass School, the University of Michigan and the Penland School of Crafts. Fero's work is included in the collections of the New Orleans Museum of Art, LA; the NC Visual Arts Center; the Museum of American Glass, NJ; the Huntsville Museum of Art, AL; the Glasmuseum in Denmark; and the Asheville Art Musuem, NC. His work is also a part of many private collections including the Barnett Bank Corporate Collection in FL.
