August Issue 2001
Gallery C in Raleigh, NC, Features Works by George Poland
Gallery C in Raleigh, NC, is presentings an
exhibition entitled, Works from the Estate of George Poland
(1914 - 2000). The exhibit will be on view through Aug. 25,
2001.
Dr. Poland was a long-time resident of Raleigh and a professor
and head of the Department of Modern Languages at North Carolina
State University. Throughout his lifetime he was an avid traveler
and passionate art collector whose collection is a wealth of beauty
and creativity. Poland's travels allowed him to collect artwork
from Spain, Haiti, and South America along with some of the biggest
names in North Carolina art including Claude Howell, Joseph Cox,
Hobson Pittman and others. He was a well known figure in both
art and music circles in the Triangle and his collection should
be of great interest to those who knew him as well as those who
love art.
