August Issue 2001
Tidwell Art Gallery in Charleston, SC, Features Dog Days of August Exhibition
Beginning Aug. 1, Tidwell Art Gallery in Charleston, SC, will be going to the dogs. The King Street gallery will be featuring the Canine art of husband and wife artists Joyce Hall and Martin Ahrens. During the Dog Days of August they will be offering oil commissions of dogs or any pets at special show prices. Hall will set up in the front of the gallery, working on oil pet portraits from Tues. through Sat. throughout the month.
Ahrens and Hall have been painting and teaching for 30 years, and their works have appeared in galleries and museums throughout the country. They have both exhibited in the renowned Birds In Art exhibition at Leigh Yawkey Woodson Museum in Wausau, Wis. Hall has a painting on an 18-month world tour with the museum at this time. Her work is featured in North Lights Best of Wildlife 2 and she has won awards in many international wildlife art shows. In the fall she will be the official artist for the Colonial Cup at Springdale Race Course in Camden, SC. Her equine art will appear on the Cup Poster and her originals will be on display as well. South Eastern Equine will be doing a feature article and the International Museum of the Horse in Kentucky will be featuring one of her paintings in their September exhibition.
Ahrens and Hall have both won awards at the Art Show at the Dog Show in Kansas. Ahrens' painting from that exhibit was featured in Canine Images and Hall's painting went on to the AKA Museum in St. Louis. Both paintings will be in the Tidwell Art Gallery exhibit in August.
Hall and Ahrens have spent years traveling to zoos and wildlife refuges, painting and photographing wild and domestic animals and birds. They contribute a portion of all sales to the Island Bird Rescue.
