Gallery 9 in Foscoe, NC, Features New Works by Wayne Trapp and Sandra Paynter Washburn

Gallery 9 in Foscoe, NC, will present an exhibition entitled, Stone, Steel and Acrylics, featuring new works by Wayne Trapp and Sandra Paynter Washburn from Aug.17 through Sept. 21, 2002.

Sandra Paynter Washburn has become a gallery favorite. Her work draws quite a crowd. She has won numerous awards for both her watercolors and for her mixed media, acrylic paintings. Her skill and diversity make her work eye-catching, contemplative and timeless. Paynter Washburn is an absolute treasure as contemporary artists go.

"My artwork is inspired by the patterns, textures and colors in the natural world. I seldom have a finished image in mind when I begin to work. Through a highly intuitive process, I work, then look and think, allowing each piece to speak, to tell me what it needs, until it is complete. Painting is a language I use to speak about my profound awe and gratitude in the presence of the great Creator. Painting gives voice to my spirit," says Paynter Washburn.

"We have been waiting with great anticipation for the new paintings for this show, and I truly believe that they were worth the wait!," adds Nancee Pond, gallery director.

Wayne Trapp, who works out of his studio/home in Vilas, NC, produces masterful two-dimensional and three-dimensional works in oils, inks, and sculpture mediums. Trapp has focused his efforts this summer on his first passion - sculpture, encompassing over three decades of experience. He is unusually versatile, manipulating stone, bronze, marble, alabaster, cast aluminum, stainless steel and Cor Ten steel in the creation of contemporary sculptures.

Gallery 9 will have on exhibit a new round of Trapp's most compelling three-dimensional pieces. Stone figures, abstract and geometric pedestal pieces, which exemplify the artist's ability to translate form into two completely contrasting styles, using different yet compatible mediums; steel and stone. A fountain, comprised of stainless steel, bubbles in the corner outside of the gallery.

Though Trapp's works reflect years of training and experience in two-dimensional and three-dimensional creation, he believes that the overwhelmingly positive response to his work is due mainly to the fact that he creates for himself. Trapp states, "My experience has been that people will respond to that sense of integrity," as it comes through in the finished piece.

Whatever the reason, Wayne Trapp can be considered one of the South's most prolific and successful artists, and Gallery 9 is pleased to host an exhibit of his work.
