SC Watercolor Society Presents City Art Owner, Wendyth Wells, with Special Recognition Award
On June 15, 2002, at its annual awards luncheon, the South Carolina Watercolor Society honored Wendyth Wells, the owner of City Art Gallery in Columbia, SC, with a Special Recognition Award for her outstanding contribution to the arts in South Carolina.
A native of Ann Arbor, MI, Wendyth Thomas Wells
attended St. Olaf College and received a degree in Political Science
from North Park College in Chicago, IL. Wells has worked in the
arts for the past twenty-seven years. She is a painter and has
been included in a vast array of statewide, local and some national
juried exhibitions. Wells has been a member of excellence with
the South Carolina Watercolor Society since 1981. She has received
awards in the SC Artists Guild, Columbia Artists Guild, SC State
Fair, Dutch Fork Art Association, Beaufort County Artist Guild,
Springs Annual Exhibit, Florence Museum Annual, Oklahoma Watercolor
Society, and included in many other exhibits including Anderson
Annual and SC Arts Commission Annual.
Wells exhibited in the Border Biennial at the York County
Museum, Southern Watercolor Society, and the South Carolina Watercolor
Society membership juried exhibit at the Rock Hill Arts Center.
She has also exhibited at Francis Marion University, Columbia
Museum of Art, Columbia College Gallery and in some local group
showings.
Currently, Wells is an owner of City Art, formerly Dutch Door, in the historic Congaree Vista in Columbia, SC. She is also an owner of Art Express, a nationwide art supply catalog business that has recently become available on the Internet.
Wells is a member of the advisory board of USC's Art Department and is a member of the Board of Directors of Trustus Theatre and a member of its capital campaign committee.
