Tryon Fine Arts Center in Tryon, NC, Features Works by Plein Air Artists Society
Tryon Painters and Sculptors in Tryon, NC, will host an exhibit of works by members of the Plein Air Artists Society through Aug. 12, 2003.
The Plein Air Artists Society was founded in the summer of 1998 and has grown from the founding five members to twenty-seven, most of them successful professionals; all who enjoy their recognition as serious landscape artists. Members exhibiting are: Els Balsa, Judy Cromwell, Cynthia Fulmer-Dettman, Shirley Fulmer, Joe Goldman, Georgia Harrison, Claude Irby, Ann Jennings, Lorraine Martinie, Grace M. Scherer, Jo Ann Taylor, Barbara Van Gelderen, and Beth Whigham.
Every Thursday morning, weather permitting, members of the Plein Air Artists Society start setting up easels and laying out art supplies at the chosen location. Using his/her own choice of medium, members sketch and then begin to paint a unique impression of the subject they see before them. As the morning continues and the paintings form, the artists stop for a moment to glimpse the accomplishments so far, and then return to get a fresh look at his/her own efforts and to resume painting. After 2-1/2 to 3 hours, the group breaks for a picnic style lunch. Finally, the artists' paintings, completed and nearly completed, are set up for the group to critique in a sensitive manner.
