The Wells Gallery in Charleston, SC, Features New Works by Rhett Thurman
Mark your calendar for an outstanding exhibit
of new works by artist Rhett Thurman, which will be on view from
Aug. 15 through Sept. 19, 2003, at The Wells Gallery in Charleston,
SC.
"For more than ten years, Rhett Thurman has contributed
paintings to The Wells Gallery filled with vibrant color and emotion
that share an intimate look both into the life of the SC Lowcountry
and her travels around the world," states Hume Killian, owner
of The Wells Gallery. Each painting is a short story in the life
of this artist, romantic yet recognizable scenes are at the heart
of Thurman's vision and personal experience.
Not only is Thurman a full time artist, but she is also an active
member of the arts community. She received the 1995 Outstanding
Alumna Award from Queens College where she earned her degree in
Studio Art. She has served as President of the South Carolina
Watercolor Society, and has been a faculty member for the Studio
Art Program of the Gibbes Museum of Art for more than twenty-five
years.
Thurman explains, "Whether painting at
home or abroad, a complicated sidewalk café or a simple
slice of melon, my quest remains the same: pushing past what I've
done before for a fresh spin on light, color, and relationships
of people, places and things." Her work captures the gentility
and grace traditionally associated with Southern living, yet it
transcends all regional boundaries.
