August Issue 2003
Wickwire Gallery in Hendersonville, NC, Features Works by Jane Desonier
WICKWIREfine art/folk art in Historic
Downtown Hendersonville, NC ". . .where the heart finds
art" proudly features artist, Jane Desonier, oil painter
throughout the month of Aug., 2003. True to the very colors
that first inspire her, Desonier paints "color" whether
subtle or brilliant with a brilliance of her own.
"Color can be chaotic without a strong design," says
Desonier. "In a still life I can direct both color and
design which is a rewarding challenge and great fun. A landscape
is different, particularly painting outside which I prefer, as
the color that makes the painting may appear only briefly and,
the design requires so much editing to create a synopsis of an
entire panorama."
"To me," explains Desonier, "art has always been about communicating beauty. This is even more meaningful since I moved to Western North Carolina with its stunning mountains and color harmonies."
Desonier decided to become an artist after rearing four children and moving from a small town in South Louisiana to New Orleans. She entered the University of New Orleans and received a BA in Fine Arts in 1985. Disappointed that she had so far received little classical training, Desonier began painting full-time and studying at the New Orleans Academy of Fine Arts, an institution devoted to traditional art methods. She also took oil painting workshops with California impressionist Ted Goerschner and Connecticut artist Charles Sovek.
Desonier's work has been included in national and regional juried shows with numerous awards including two Grumbacher Gold Medallions for Best-of-Show. Her work is enjoyed by many collectors in the southern states with two paintings in the corporate collection of the World Trade Center in New Orleans. Today she paints exclusively in oils.
With her husband's retirement in 1998, Desonier now divides the year between Asheville, NC, and New Orleans, LA. She is represented by WICKWIREfine art/folk art.
