City Gallery in Charleston, SC, Offers Works by Steve Hazard

The City Gallery at the Dock Street Theatre in Charleston, SC, will present the exhibition, Functional Oddities and Uncommon Objects: Improvisations in Glass, Clay and Metal, featuring works by Steve Hazard of North Charleston, SC, from Aug. 20 - Sept. 16, 2004.

As a young child growing up in Worchester, MA, Hazard displayed a natural talent for drawing and painting. In high school, he excelled in drafting and carpentry. Hazard attended Becker College in Worchester for one year, taking courses in business administration. However, since then, he has been fortunate to work in art-related positions throughout his adult life. Hazard formally studied art and art history as El Camino College in Torrance, CA. He studied off-hand glassblowing at Palomar College in San Marcos, CA, which added a new dynamic in his approach to working with fused, sagged and slumped glass.

Hazard offers the following comments on his work. "Since 1994, I have been creating functional art in glass, clay and metal. The works created for this exhibition illustrate my approach to color and three dimensional design using traditional African motifs to create contemporary interior accents."
