Queens University in Charlotte, NC, Hosts Textile Art Exhibition
Queens University of Charlotte in Charlotte, NC, is
proud to host the 4th annual exhibit of textile art by the group,
Fiber ART Options, from Aug. 1 - 30, 2004, in the Watkins Art
Gallery on Queens campus.
Fiber ART Options is a group of fiber artists from Charlotte and
Weddington, NC, and Rock Hill, SC, and Columbia, SC, who create
very diverse textile art. While strongly based in the traditional
form of quilts, these artists stretch the concept of this old
art/craft form. This exhibit features works by several impressive
artists, such as Nancy Cook, Robin Hawkins, Jean Cashin Keenan,
Susan Webb Lee, Peggy Luey, Elizabeth T. Miller, Teresa Pietras,
and Judy Payne Sy.
The method of turning pieces of fabric into original works of art is featured in this unique exhibit. One will find mixed media collages, intense and unusual fabric color combinations, pieced and layered backgrounds, hand dyed fabrics and painted textile designs, elegant machine embroidery, and several examples of quilting and beading. Some of the pieces' themes include Japanese fabric and design and feminine mid-life reflections.
Queens University of Charlotte is a private, coed, Presbyterian-affiliated liberal arts university in the heart of historic Charlotte serving approximately 2,000 undergraduate and graduate students through its College of Arts and Sciences, the Pauline Lewis Hayworth College and the McColl Graduate School of Business.
