Shain Gallery in Charlotte, NC, Features New Works Depicting Scenes of Charlotte
Darren Young
Connie Winters
Charlotte on Canvas, a special exhibit dedicated to scenes of the Queen City, opens at Shain Gallery in Charlotte, NC, on Aug. 6, 2004. The show, which runs through Aug., 31, 2004, includes fine oil and acrylic paintings by ten artists including: Henry Barnes, Roger Dale Brown, Chas Fagan, Trey Finney, William Jameson, Sharon Obee, Marilyn Simandle, George Thompson, Connie Winters and Darren Young.
This exhibit offers plein air works, as well
as studio paintings, offering a diverse collection of original
paintings which capture the spirit and energy of Charlotte and
its environs. Featured artist, Roger Dale Brown, a member of the
Oil Painters of America, and recently elected President of the
Southeastern Plein Air Association, says that in painting his
landscapes, his primary goal is to capture the essence of the
location. According to Brown, "When you can make the viewer
feel the color of the trees and the warmth of a sun-lit field,
you have succeeded" in depicting the mood and atmosphere
of the setting.
Sharon Obee
In contrast, Sharon Obee uses her process of
painting in textured layers to study other cultures and the "mixture
of life" all around us. The importance of paying close attention
to environment and people illustrated in Obee's work is underscored
by her assertion that, "Each person adds a unique exquisiteness
to this world, just as each flower adds to a landscape".
Each artist in this exhibition brings their own distinct perspective
to this collaborative show; through their eyes, the full spectrum
of people and places that makeup Charlotte today are revealed.
