Aiken Center for the Arts in Aiken, SC, Features SC Watercolor Society Exhibition
The South Carolina Watercolor Society's 28th Annual Awards Exhibition will be on display at the Aiken Center for the Arts in Aiken, SC, from Aug. 2 - 31, 2005. The traveling exhibition is sponsored by First Citizens Bank.
Of the 213 entries submitted statewide, the juror, Margaret M. Martin, AWS, NWS, selected 51 paintings for the exhibition, including, In the Beginning, the BellSouth Award-winning watercolor by Ridge Spring, SC, artist Judy Adamick. The top 30 paintings received $8,655 in awards.
Martin is a Boston University graduate and the recipient of many national awards. A full-time painter and invited guest instructor for North American watercolor seminars, she also juries national and regional exhibitions and is the author of No More Wishy Washy Watercolor. Martin resides in Buffalo, NY, and is a signature member of American Watercolor Society and National Watercolor Society among others.
Additional project support for the SC Watercolor Society's annual exhibition was contributed by the City of Newberry, City of Newberry/Accommodations Tax, Newberry Downtown Development Association, Milliken Foundation, the South Carolina Arts Commission and many business and individual contributors.
Located in the heart of downtown Aiken, the Aiken Center for the Arts has been a major art resource for the community for over 30 years. Offering a variety of visual and performing art classes, free exhibits, children's summer art camps and special events such as Horseplay, the Center is dedicated to furthering arts in the community.
