City Art in Columbia, SC, Features Works by Tim Floyd, Heather Noë and Scotty Peek

City Art in Columbia, SC, is presenting an exhibition of works by Tim Floyd, Heather Noë and Scotty Peek, which will be on view from Aug. 1 through Sept. 9, 2005.

Tim Floyd

Tim Floyd is currently in public relations for Palmetto Heath, but has been a graphic designer, art director and advertising professional since the early 1980's working with Midland's Technical College, Blue Cross Blue Shield, and the University of South Carolina. City Art will be showing several of his newest paintings consisting primarily of landscapes. Floyd says of one of these recent paintings, "This painting is a reflection of a trip to Italy. My wife, Carol and I flew into Rome and immediately took a train South to Gaeta. I was as excited as a little boy as I stared out the train window. Water droplets clung to the glass. We were surrounded by the morning commuters that had seen this a hundred times, but to me, the landscape was peacefully saying 'welcome to Italy, you're going to love it here.' And I did."

Heather Noë

Heather Noë is one of the owners of City Art and will be showing her new mixed media works. While working in a mixed media format, combining acrylic paint and mediums, wire, wood, and gouache, Noë explores spirituality through her artwork. Recent events in the lives of her family and friends, have led to an inner strength and renewed desire to create artwork. Traveling and living in many parts of the country has brought many different colorful palettes, patterns, and designs to her paintings. The varying landscapes, cultures and influences of the western United States, have been evident in her painting style for many years.

Noë has a BFA in Studio Art from the University of South Carolina. She is a member of excellence in the South Carolina Watercolor Society; and has exhibited regionally in the Springs Mills Exhibit, the South Carolina Artists Guild Exhibit, Columbia College, and the South Carolina State Fair. She has also been included in private and institutional collections. Noë has 3 children that keep her involved with schools, sports, and church activities, but she continues to paint and create art in many different mediums.

Scotty Peek

City Art will exhibit Scotty Peek's Mill People, Milled Cotton. which was originally displayed in the Triennial at the South Carolina State Museum which is housed in a converted cotton mill. City Art will display the nine 3'x3' canvases in a linear format offings a different view than shown at the State Museum. Peek comments about the piece, "The images for Mill People, Milled Cotton were taken from photographs of an event in which everyone in attendance would have been directly related to the mill. The portraits are rendered on raw cotton duck, much like the cotton duck the mill produced. Mill People, Milled Cotton was informed and inspired by several conversations with a third generation mill worker and his wife. They met in the mill."

Peek attended Austin Peay State University in Clarksville, TN, where he earned a BFA, with a concentration in drawing, in 1995. In 2000 he was awarded the MFA, with a major in Drawing and a minor in 3-D Design from the University of South Carolina in Columbia. He has worked as the preparator at USC's McKissick Museum and as an adjunct drawing instructor at the University of South Carolina. Peek is also a talented musician and songwriter.
