August Issue 2005
Green Rice Gallery in Charlotte, NC, Features Hip Hop Exhibition
The Green Rice Gallery in Charlotte, NC, will present the exhibition, The Art of HIP HOP, from Aug. 5 -28, 2005. Several up and coming Charlotte artist will exhibit works that pay tribute as well as comment on issues within the HIP HOP culture. These works will include a variety of mediums; photography, computer graphics, abstract and figurative paintings, pen and ink, collage, and sculpture.
HIP HOP started in the Bronx, NY, during the
early 70's, to put a cease to the violence that affected the community's
youth. However since then, due to corporate and cultural exploitation,
negative images have dominated the general public's perception
of the culture. This exhibition will attempt to debunk the myths
and showcase the beauty and potential of HIP HOP through artistic
expression.
