Hodges Taylor Gallery in Charlotte, NC, Features Works by John Skau and Some

Hodges Taylor Gallery in Charlotte, NC, is presenting the exhibition, John Skau: Sculptural Basketry, on view through Aug. 30, 2005.

John Skau

Skau received his Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from Northern Illinois University and his Master of Fine Arts degree from Cranbrook Academy of Art. He has been an instructor at Midwest Basketry Focus, Indiana, Ball State University, Indiana and Penland School of Crafts, NC. Since 1993, Skau has maintained a studio in Archdale, NC.

As a contemporary basket maker, Skau creates seamless, monumental forms that are elegant, minimal expressions. Each of his baskets is one-of-a-kind, intricately woven from painted and natural wooden strips. His work has been exhibited at the Boston's World Trade Center, MA; Navy Pier, Chicago, IL; National Building Museum, Washington, DC and most recently, Winthrop University Galleries, Rock Hill, SC.

In addition to Skau's exhibition, the gallery will be featuring new works by Raymond Chorneau, Carolyn DeMeritt, Michael Barringer and Kevin Kennedy.

In business since 1981 in uptown Charlotte, Hodges Taylor is Charlotte's oldest art gallery, committed to representing artists of the southeast. The gallery has established itself as a resource for contemporary art, with a knowledgeable and experienced team. Gallery artists work in a variety of media including paintings, prints, photograph and sculpture.
