The Richland County Public Library in Columbia, SC, Offers Exhibit on Mary Shelley's Frankenstein
The Richland County Public Library will host a national exhibit on Frankenstein through Sept. 30, 2005, in the Wachovia Gallery of the Main Library, in Columbia, SC. RCPL is one of 82 libraries across the United States selected to host the exhibit, which is open free to the public during regular library hours.
Frankenstein: Penetrating the Secrets of Nature, examines Mary Shelley's classic novel Frankenstein, and its evolution in literature, popular culture and scientific research. The exhibit creatively shows how playwrights, filmmakers and the media have transformed Shelley's saga into one of the world's most enduring myths. The exhibit also addresses how Shelley's story can be used to question the human implications of scientific advances, such as cloning and genetic engineering.
The exhibit was developed by the National Library of Medicine in collaboration with the American Library Association and made possible by generous grants from the National Endowment for the Humanities and the National Library of Medicine.
"The Richland County Public Library is
the only library in South Carolina selected to host the event,"
said RCPL's Quincy Pugh. "To complement the exhibit, we have
planned several fascinating programs exploring the life of Mary
Wollstonecraft Shelley and her remarkable story."
Planned Special Programs include:

Penetrating Mary Shelley's Secrets (for adults). Hear from Dr.
Paula Feldman, a Professor of English at USC, an international
