Arts United for Davidson County in Lexington, NC, Offers First Art of the Vine Festival on Aug. 19, 2006
The Art of the Vine Festival is a two-part event that will provide fun activities for the entire family. An outdoor festival from 10am-3pm on Aug. 19, 2006. The festival will be held on the grounds of Childress Vineyards Winery, located off of Hwy. 64 West past the Hwy. 52 interchange. The festival will offer wine tastings of six award-winning Childress wines, food, music, art demonstrations and sales of fine arts and handmade crafts and a dance performance by the High Point Ballet. A special children's activity area will provide face painting, a magician and balloon artist and a coloring contest.
Noel Freidline, an acoustic jazz band from Charlotte, NC, will perform from 10am to 12:30pm. The Noel Freidline Band is known for its signature sound built upon the innovative writing and arranging of Noel Freidline and powered by masterful musicianship and an infectious enthusiasm for the music. The Reggie Buie Trio, a smooth jazz group from Winston-Salem, will perform from 1- 3pm on the Terrace at the Vineyards.
A number of the regions best artists will conduct art demonstrations and sales of art on the grounds of the Vineyards. Artists expected to attend are Sandra Hiatt and Jeffrey Jobe, jewelry; Bob Timberlake, Dempsey Essick, Mark Huffman and Jack Stone, visual artists; Sandra Hiatt, Kevin Wilson, pottery; Dexter Covington, Judy King, sculpture; Lee Chesson, woodcraft; Rodney Slate, photography and Erik Huffman, caricature artist.
The evening Winemaker's
Dinner from 7-10pm, sponsored by LSB The Bank, will feature Mark
Friszolowski, winemaker for Childress Vineyards, who has selected
four Childress wines to complement a gourmet four-course meal
being prepared by Matt
Upchurch, chef and owner of M. Stephens in High Point, NC. Friszolowski
will introduce the wines with each course and provide an educational
overview of winemaking and the characteristics of each wine being
sampled. Unique art will highlight the silent auction featuring
a number of luxury items including professional services and trips.
Roy Ackland, FOX8 television morning news anchor and the focus
of the popular Roy's Folks feature stories, is the honorary chairman
of the Winemaker's Dinner. Admission is $170 per couple, $95 for
an individual, which includes a complimentary Richard Childress
autographed bottle of Childress wine. Tickets may be purchased
at Arts United for Davidson County, 336/249-2742.
"The Art of the Vine Festival showcases many of the artists and businesses that make Davidson County a unique place to live, work and relax," said Erik Salzwedel, Director for Arts United. "We are planning for this event to become an annual event and fundraiser for Arts United for Davidson County and hope to expand the activities and number of days for the event as it grows each year. The event is designed to draw people from throughout the Triad to our area."

Admission is $20 for adults age 21 and older and $10 for designated drivers or anyone under the age of 21. Tickets may be purchased in advance at the Arts United for Davidson County office on S. Main Street in Lexington, call 336/249-2742, at Childress Vineyards, at the Lexington Bank of the Carolinas or any Davidson County LSB The Bank branch. Tickets for the festival may be purchased at the gate on the day of the event.
