Artworks Gallery in Winston-Salem, NC, Features Works by Virginia Shepley
Artworks Gallery in Winston-Salem, NC, will present the exhibit, States of Grace, featuring new works on paper by Virginia Shepley, on view from Aug. 1 - 26, 2006. The exhibit features a wide range of work from small paper-mache sculptures to giant wall pieces.
Shepley, Interim Curator
of Education for the Diggs Gallery at Winston-Salem University,
moved to North Carolina from Oakland, CA, in Aug. 2005. She holds
a BA in Human Biology from Stanford University and a Master's
of Fine Arts (MFA) from John F.
Kennedy University.
Shepley's background in biology informs her work, comprised of striking organic forms in pink, green and red.
The artist says, "Working intuitively, I am attempting to express what I call 'states of grace' when the past and future fall away, and our full awareness and attention is given to life in the present moment.
"These pieces are studies in balance. When opposing energies inside us fall into balance, a doorway opens to heightened experience."
