McColl Center for Visual Art in Charlotte, NC, Features Works by Doug McAbee - on Front Lawn
In addition to the exhibits
inside Charlotte, NC's McColl Center for Visual Art's galleries,
works by accomplished regional artists can also be seen on the
front lawn. Continuing through Dec. 31, 2006, the Center will
feature the work of Doug McAbee - a sculptor who lives and works
in Spartanburg, SC.
McAbee holds a BA in Art and an MFA in Sculpture from Winthrop
University in Rock Hill, SC, where he is now an adjunct faculty
member. He and his work have been featured in The Herald, The
Charlotte Observer, Channel 4 Greenville and Spartanburg
Magazine. Some of his work can be seen at the First Citizens
Bank Main Lobby in Charlotte.
McAbee's large sculptures can be described as whimsical, fun, and animated and his colors are bold and expressive. He uses imagery that seems familiar yet hovers just beyond recognition. "My work utilizes bold color and familiar imagery as powerful tools for communication," says McAbee. "Initially attracted by the brightness of the colors, viewers are left to consider the logical or illogical relationship between the colors and the images."
McColl Center for Visual Art is advancing creativity through artist residencies, exhibitions and other educational programs about contemporary art. The Center provides transforming experiences for visual artists, individuals who visit the Center and our broader community. Come and celebrate your creative spirit!
