UNC Asheville in Asheville, NC, Features Works by Lynne Caldwell
Shibori, an exhibition of textiles by Asheville, NC, fiber artist Lynne Caldwell, will be on view through Aug. 25, 2006, at UNC Asheville's Highsmith University Union Gallery. The exhibit features textiles made with the Japanese shibori technique in which fabric is shaped, bound and dyed, as well as the ikat technique, a similar process for dyeing yarn.
Caldwell, an experienced fiber artist, is the author of Shibori: A Beginner's Guide to Creating Color and Texture on Fabric (Lark Books, 2006). She holds master's degree in fibers from the Savannah College of Art and Design and has taught workshops at The Textile Museum and Smithsonian Institution. A former professor at the North Carolina State University School of Design, Caldwell now teaches in UNC Asheville's Arts and Ideas Program.
