Waterfront Gallery in Charleston, SC, Offers Works by Morgan Kuhn
Waterfront Gallery in Charleston, SC, is presenting the exhibit, Of Time and Tides, Series II, featuring works by Morgan Kuhn, on view through Aug. 31, 2007.
Born and raised in Savannah, GA, Kuhn feels she cannot leave the salt air of the tidal plains for long periods without feeling smaller and more insignificant. The tie that binds her to the coast, the marsh, the sea and the sand is a welcome and permanent one. In the second series Of Time and Tides, Kuhn playfully explores the different ways to enjoy the coast and to be rejuvenated by its quiet strength.
In some of Kuhn's paintings, the power of the moon and the sun and the water and the sand is disguised by her gentle brush and use of soft, subtle tones. In other paintings, these powers are accentuated by her bold strokes and strong hues, imbuing the painting with an electric energy, as if lightening may strike at any moment.
Through Kuhn's paintings in this series, one can feel the inevitable pull of the moon, the warmth of the sun on bare skin and the strange squishiness of sand as it seeps out from under toes. It is as if, for one brief instant, all is well.
