Wells Gallery in Charleston, SC, Features Works by Kevin LePrince
The Wells Gallery in Charleston, SC, is proud to present the exhibit, New Works, featuring oil paintings by local emerging artist Kevin LePrince. The exhibit will be on view from Aug. 17 through Sept. 1, 2007.
Growing up in Charleston, LePrince is very familiar with the habits and personalities of the local wildlife, and tries to give each painting a sense of individuality. Many collectors have taken notice to his personalized Lowcountry birds, known for their quirky character and rich colors. His love of the Lowcountry, in combination with scrutinous observation and playful individuality, help him reinvent the natural local scenes.
LePrince initially earned a degree in economics in 1992 and worked as Vice President of Investments with Wachovia Securities prior to beginning his formal art training and career as an artist. He is studied in the classical subject matter painted primarily in the "alla prima" style, meaning "at once". Using this direct (wet paint into wet paint) method combined with a traditional impressionistic palette consisting of two blues, two reds, and two yellows, LePrince is able to place the emphasis of his paintings only on his subjects by illuminating them. He believes, "a painting's success depends on the ability of its subject to stand out and its background to go unnoticed".
