Art League of Henderson County in Hendersonville,
NC, Features Works by Linda Cheek and Virginia Pendergrass
The Art League of Henderson County in Hendersonville, NC, will present the exhibit, Mountain Life, featuring works by Linda Cheek and Virginia Pendergrass, on view from Aug. 3 through Sept. 4, 2008 at Opportunity House.
Cheek, from Marshall, NC, is a dedicated plein-air artist whose work in both oil and pastel has earned her wide recognition. She has shown at the prestigious Salmagundi Club in New York where she has won the annual George Grey Award and has work hanging in their permanent collection. Cheek received her formal education from the Ringling School of Art in Sarasota, FL. Her biographical listings include Who's Who in American Art. She is currently represented by the Red Clover Gallery in Landrum, SC.
Cheek works on location in the Southern Highlands, the Smoky Mountains National Park and the Blue Ridge Parkway. Whenever possible she paints on the spot because " I feel the mood of the place and my reaction to the surroundings is vital to producing a good painting."
Virginia Pendergrass, a Brevard, NC, artist who also enjoys plein-air painting, received her art training at the Crealde School of Art, Winter Park, FL, Old Lyme Academy of Art, Old Lyme, CT, and has studied with Scott Christensen. She is a member of the American Impressionist Society, Oil Painters of America and the Transylvania Art Guild.
Pendergrass is represented by the Silver Fox Gallery in Hendersonville, The Red Clover Gallery in Landrum, SC, and the Bluewood Gallery in Brevard, NC. She has received major awards in both regional and national competitions.
