Western Carolina University in Cullowhee, NC, Offers Environmental Exhibition

The Fine Art Museum art Western Carolina University in Cullowhee, NC, is presenting a juried exhibit entitled, FRAGILE EARTH: Reflections on the Environment, on view through Aug. 16, 2008. Over $1,500 in cash and purchase awards were given to selected works.

FRAGILE EARTH is a regional exhibition that represents area artists whose artwork reflects not only the beauty but also the vulnerability of the environment both here in the mountains and globally. Martin DeWitt, Fine Art Museum Director, commented, "With the help of the Jackson County Arts Council and other regional art councils, we mailed over 500 entry forms to artists throughout the western-most counties of Western North Carolina to include Clay, Cherokee, Graham, Haywood, Jackson, Macon, Swain, Transylvania and the Qualla Boundary. Over 100 entries were submitted and the jury results include 42 artists and 65 art works in a variety of media." DeWitt added, "We are very pleased with the excellent response. No doubt artists are concerned about the environment and offer a unique personal perspective, often inspired by tradition, as well as exploration of media and new ideas."
