Africa Inspired Exhibit Opens at Columbia College in Columbia, SC
The Columbia College Art Department in Columbia,
SC, presents The Artist's Collection, A Personal Retrospective
by Anita Gilbert on view in the Goodall Gallery Sept. 18 through
Oct. 20.
In Gilbert's words, " this collection of paintings has been
produced over the past 15 years, in the unstable climate of raising
two children and making seven international moves." Included
is work from time spent in Kenya, the Philippines, Niger, Uganda,
Swaziland, and Botswana. The work, varied in size and medium,
includes oils, acrylics, and mixed assemblages.
Born in Nebraska, Gilbert has a BFA degree from the University of Nebraska and MA and MFA degrees from the University of Iowa. She currently lives in Rockville, MD, and is on the faculty of Montgomery College as an adjunct professor.
Gilbert has exhibited extensively in Africa and has paintings in private and public international collections.
