Hodges Taylor Gallery in Charlotte, NC, Offers Two Solo Exhibitions by Andrea Rosenberg & David Dodge Lewis

Hodges Taylor Gallery in Charlotte, NC, continues the celebration of its twenty-first season in Sept.-Oct. with exhibitions of two long-time gallery artists, painters Andrea Rosenberg and David Dodge Lewis. The exhibitions opens on Sept. 7 and continues through Oct. 27, 2001.

Andrea Rosenberg

Though the subject matter is floral in origin, Andrea Rosenberg's drawings will not be confused with botanical illustrations. The artist's interest in the abstract quality of line so richly and reductively used avoids any confusion. Not one unnecessary detail is found in these 6 x 4 inch pieces, deftly brought to life through washes of oil color layered with pencil and charcoal. A recent trip to Montana provided Rosenberg with one of her favorite images, one that she later learned is considered a weed.

David Dodge Lewis

David Dodge Lewis takes a different path in his paintings, enlarging his chosen subject matter through the use of broad ink washes and energetic strokes. This Virginia artist works somewhat as a composer would work, highlighting individual instruments at times, but returning to the full orchestra at other times. A nice rhythm evolves when viewed in series. An aura of dignity emerges as Lewis honors what may be considered rather quotidian objects, such as a camera.
