September Issue 2001
McCormick Arts Council in McCormick, SC, Features Works by Anne Nielsen
"I believe that art belongs to the world but also is a very personal affair. I want to create a body of work that will formulate questions, move a spirit, create a comfortable cairn, or bring an edgy disquiet".
This extract from the artist's statement of Anne Nielsen gives us an inkling of the diversity of artistic expression that can be expected to be displayed at the forthcoming exhibit at the McCormick Arts Council gallery in McCormick, SC. MACK's featured artist of the month for September, Nielsen is a self-taught artist whose career has run the gamut from huge theater backdrops and three-dimensional metal work to her present position as a widely acclaimed artist specializing in oil on canvas. Twenty-seven of Nielsen's works will be on display at the MACK from Sept. 7-29, 2001.
In the past two years Nielsen's works have been juried and selected in National competitions ranging from Punta Gorda, Florida to Buffalo, New York and Hilton Head Island. Most recently ten of her paintings were juried into the Georgia Capitol show this past January, with seven of these selected for display in the Office of the Governor.
