Art for the Cure to Benefit the Komen NC Foothills Affiliate
The NC Foothills Affiliate of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation is the beneficiary of a fundraiser, Art for the Cure from 10am-5pm on Sept. 29 hosted by the Morning Song Gallery in Lenoir, NC.
will feature the work of area artists who have been asked to produce work on-site the day of the event to be sold to the highest bidder in a silent auction. Bidding will commence at 10am and go until 5pm. All proceeds from the event will benefit the NC Foothills Affiliate of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation in an effort to educate the community on the early diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer to help curb the number of deaths from the disease.
Margaret Carter-Martine, owner of Morning Song Gallery, is directing the event and hopes to have nearly 40 different artists feature their work for bidding. Carter-Martine is an advocate of breast cancer awareness and came up with the fundraising event to raise awareness in the community about the mission of the Foundation. Artists Norma Suddreth, who focuses her work on 3D and watercolor, Carolina Finley, who also focuses her work in watercolor, and Denise Baker, who creates mixed media, are among the artists that Carter-Martine has asked to participate in the event.
The mission of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation is to eradicate breast cancer as a life-threatening disease by advancing research, education, screening, and treatment. Affiliates of the Komen Foundation represent one of the nation's largest private funding sources for breast health and breast cancer screening, education, treatment, and support programs. The NC Foothills Affiliate was incorporated in 2000 and serves Caldwell, Catawba, and Burke Counties.
