Tryon Painters & Sculptors in Tryon, NC, Host Exhibits by Hans A. Lauridsen and Mary Ellen Wuerfel

Tryon Painters and Sculptors will host joint exhibits by painter Hans A. Lauridsen and painted furniture artist Mary Ellen Wuerfel at the Tryon Fine Arts Center in Tryon, NC, through Sept. 11, 2001.

Hans A. Lauridsen

Naive, primitive Americana, the paintings of Hans Lauridsen are unique creations depicting the fascinations, humor and charm of days gone by. His childhood in New England fostered a fondness for countryside beauty dotted with old time charm. Lauridsen's canvases depict horse and buggys, old fashioned houses and barns, carousels, victorian parlors and kitchens with wood burning stoves. His work has received attention and praise in various publications and from prestigious decorators and galleries.

Mary Ellen Wuerfel grew up in Ohio and attended the University of Toledo. While living in Ohio she pursued her art training with classes in pen, pencil, charcoal and oil painting. After moving to Tryon she added watercolor to her portfolio. Wuerfel started painting furniture as a hobby and now it is a full time job. Her husband makes furniture and also repairs damaged antique furniture, which she paints and decorates. She also paints murals in private homes.
