Davidson College in Davidson, NC, Offers Annual Faculty Show
Davidson College in Davidson, NC, is presenting its annual facuity exhibition which features works by the college's four fine arts professors. The exhibition will continue through Oct. 9, 2002. The artists are visiting assistant professor Ray Kleinlein, professor Herb Jackson, professor Russ Warren and associate professor Cort Savage.
Ray Kleinlein's realistic oil paintings, which transform mundane objects such as cardboard boxes and socks into mysterious tableaus, will be displayed in the Smith Gallery. He holds an MFA from Ohio University, and most recently held a faculty position at Longwood College in Farmville, VA.
Work by the other three professors will appear in the Van Every Gallery. Herb Jackson will show a recent body of large-scale acrylic works on canvas. He is renowned for his dramatic paintings that employ striking colors and intricate textures, building up hundreds of layers of paint and matter, then stripping away at them to reveal dynamic abstractions.
Russ Warren's lyrical oil paintings combine humor with a unique stylistic approach to create images that are both chaotic and harmonious.
Sculptor Cort Savage, best know for his kinetic sculptures, will debut a new series of bronze works that deal with physical and metaphysical concepts of the human body.
