New Arts Event to Debut in Downtown Greensboro, NC, this Fall

Recognizing the arts' importance to downtown Greensboro's economic success and quality of life, the Greensboro Center City Marketing Alliance (GCCMA) in Greensboro, NC, is presenting ArtsAlive! on three different Fridays this fall.

ArtsAlive! is not a traditional street festival, but rather a collective effort by visual and performing artists and arts groups to utilize permanent downtown arts venues to promote their cause(s) and expand their audiences. ArtsAlive! is for people of all ages. Everyone will find something for his or her enjoyment. There are many ways people can participate and that participation is open to everyone.

ArtsAlive! will take place on Sept. 19, Oct. 17, and Nov, 21of 2003. Because the event will encompass all of downtown two trolleys will be utilized to carry attendees throughout downtown to reduce traffic congestion and to make the event more fun for all.

Participating arts groups and venues include: The Greenhill Center for Creative Arts, The Greensboro Artists' League, The Marshall Gallery, TriadStage, and many others. Downtown merchants will remain open for the event and many will, in addition showcase artists on their premises.

Financial underwriting for ArtsAlive! is coming from GCCMA members, the Greater Greensboro Merchants Association, Action Greensboro, and several corporate partners. Emisare, Inc., a downtown marketing firm is donating its services to promote the event. ArtsAlive! information can be accessed online at (www.arts-alive.com).

ArtsAlive! co-chairman Kathy Craft, owner of Eastern Standard Gallery an art gallery located in downtown's Southside community says, "We are excited about the positive response we have received from our members comprised of downtown merchants, artists, arts organizations and residents. It is our goal to draw 10,000 people downtown for each event."

GCCMA is a merchant-driven marketing organization established in June of 2002 and managed by those who have invested money, time and effort in preserving downtown Greensboro's glorious past and building its future as a vibrant commerce center and fully accept the responsibility that comes with that investment. GCCMA's membership consists of downtown Greensboro merchants, residents, supportive organizations and individuals that wish to be proactive with their time and money in marketing downtown Greensboro as a shopping, dining, entertainment and tourist destination.

GCCMA is an autonomous organization operating under Downtown Greensboro Inc.'s corporate umbrella. An advisory consisting of downtown area business owners administers the group's activities and finances. Members include Blumenthals, Mack and Mack Clothing, LeVal's Boutique, The Eastern Standard Gallery, 223 South Elm, Chakras Spa, Undercurrent, Schiffman's Jewelers, South Elm Place, Rhyne's Corner Cupboard, Barry Shoemaker Interior Design, Broach Theatre, Eclectic by Nature, Espresso 2 Go, Deal Printing, Kress Terrace, Grassroots Productions, The Marshall Gallery, TriadStage, The Greensboro Artists' League, Zeto, and Two Art Chicks.
