Lenoir, NC, is the Site of the 19th Annual Sculpture Celebration on Sept. 11, 2004

Sculptors are busily creating their best work for you to see at the 19th Annual Sculpture Celebration in Lenoir, NC. The Celebration will be held on Sept. 11, 2004, from 9am-4:30pm at the JE Broyhill Park on Ridge Street in downtown Lenoir. The participating artists from over 15 states will be competing for prizes and purchase awards. The Caldwell Arts Council and Tri-State Sculptors are the co-sponsors of this event. The unique aspect of the Celebration is the artists have the opportunity to promote their work, share ideas with other artists and discuss with patrons the art of sculpture.

This is a family friendly event with activities for all ages. There will be music throughout the day a Caldwell County favorite The Harris Brothers will jam from 9:30am till 11:30am and Pattie & Jack Le Sueur and Cedar Creek will perform contemporary folk, country and bluegrass music from 1-3pm. There will be a variety of food vendors as well. A Hands-on art project sponsored by Foothills Visual Arts Guild will give young and old a chance to create their own art throughout the event. All activates are free to the public.

The judge for the Caldwell Arts Council's 19th Annual Sculpture Celebration is, Katherine Huntoon, who has served as Gallery Director, Curator and Visiting Artist Coordinator at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia since 1997. Prior to that, Huntoon served as founding Administrative Director and Curator at Delta Axis Commemoratory Arts Center in Memphis, TN, a not-for-profit artist-run community visual arts center. She has arranged exhibitions and hosted visits by such artists and organizations as James Surls, Donald Roller Wilson, Flo Oy Wong, Elliott Earls, the historic Hatch Show Print studio and the Ellin and Baron Gordon Contemporary Folk Art Collection.

This celebration was started in 1985. Through corporate and individual donations the Arts Council has purchased sculpture for Caldwell County. Currently, the collection of 73 sculptures is displayed throughout the county. Sculptures are located on street corners, parks, public offices, schools, libraries and other public properties.

The sponsors of this years' event are: The Caldwell Arts Council, Tri-State Sculptors, Broyhill Family Foundation, Caldwell Chapter NC Association of Educators, Bill White, Mrs. Allene B. Heilman, Blue Ridge Energies, Broyhill Furniture Company, Bob and Lana Donovan, Larry and Barbara Freiman, Greystone Ophthalmology: Dr. Ann Joslyn, Golden Corral Family Steak House, Steve and Kim Kincaid, Susan Rowe, Norma and Jack Suddreth, NCAE, EB Wall and Associates and a Grassroots grant from the North Carolina Arts Council. The purchase award sponsors are: Broyhill Family Foundation, Dr. John Tye, and Art for Schools.

Make plans to put your little ones in a stroller, put on your walking shoes and plan to spend the day at the 19th Annual Sculpture Celebration looking at wonderful sculptures, listening to great music and having a wonderful time enjoying art.
