Center for Craft, Creativity and Design in Hendersonville, NC, Presents Works from Haywood Community College Professional Crafts Program

The Center for Craft, Creativity and Design in Hendersonville, NC, presents an exhibition of works by students and faculty from the Haywood Community College Professional Crafts Program. Works will be on display in the Craft Center's gallery through Oct. 22, 2004.

The Professional Crafts Program at Haywood Community College in Clyde, NC, has become a model program. Offering students tracts in clay, fiber, jewelry and wood, students are also taught marketing and business skills. At the end of the two-year program, students graduate with a diploma, portfolio, studio and marketing plan, and a body of work. The program began in the mid-1970's in recognition of the strong heritage of craft in the Smoky Mountains Region. The program is so successful that students come from throughout the United States and abroad to attend. There are extensive waiting lists for each of the disciplines.

Two talks will be held in conjunction with the exhibition. Wayne Raab, faculty in wood, will be speaking on Sept. 7, at 4pm. Catherine Ellis, faculty in fiber, will be speaking on Oct. 5 at 4pm. The talks will be held in the Conference Center next door, and refreshments will be served.

The Center for Craft, Creativity and Design is located on the 50-acre Kellogg Center at 1181 Broyles Road in Hendersonville. The Center is a regional, inter-institutional center of the University of North Carolina.
