The Mint Museum of Art in Charlotte, NC, Offers Art Lecture by Peter Milton on Sept. 30, 2004
For over 40 years internationally known printmaker Peter Milton (b. 1930) has been in the forefront of American printmaking. His mastery of complex etching techniques combined with his fascination with history evolves into finely detailed prints that are mysterious, yet beautiful. Milton is considered a contemporary master of etching and engraving techniques. His incredibly complex prints of fact and fantasy have the effect of an historical novel, leaving one curious as to what is based in truth and what is exaggerated or imagined.
On Sept. 30, 2004, Milton and Artistic Director of North Carolina Dance Theatre, Jean-Pierre Bonnefoux, will discuss the imagery depicted in Miltonıs print, Points of Departure II: Nijinsky Variations. The discussion entitled, Insights and Imagery: Nijinsky Variations, will take place at The Mint Museum of Artıs Van Every Forum at 7pm. Mint/NCDT Members $10/Non-members $15/Students $5.
Points of Departure II: Nijinsky Variations, is currently on view at Hodges Taylor Gallery, 401 N. Tryon Street, Charlotte.
The event is co-sponsored by The Mint Museums, NC Dance Theatre, and The Fine Print Room, Hodges Taylor Gallery. Additional sponsorship provided by Robert Benites and Michael J. Teaford. All proceeds benefit The Mint Museums for the acquisition of Points of Departure II: Nijinsky Variations for the Museumsı permanent collection.
In conjunction with this event, an exhibition of Milton's most recent prints, Etched in Memory: Prints by Peter Milton and Building Modernism with Prints: People, Places, Passions, 1750-1950 (from the Mint Museumsı collection) will be on view at Winthrop University, from Sept. 13 through Oct. 27, 2004.
